Dads Mini Mountains 🏔
Updated: Jan 12, 2021
My dad, Roy started making mini mountains roughly 1-2 months ago. They are the mountains in our local area of Assynt. The mountains are very popular with climbers, walkers and the locals who live amongst them.
First stage, he gets some special model making clay and manually moulds a mountain using images from google, his own local knowledge and with a collection of small tools. The process can take several hours/days, to get it right!

Second stage, once happy with the mini mountain, he lets dry and places in a wooden box that he makes as he wants a mould.
Third stage, he mixes specially formulated clay and pours in to the mould and let’s it dry. This only takes 5-10 minutes as it’s quick drying.

Fourth stage, the mini mountain is carefully taken out of the mould.
Fifth stage, he now has a perfect mould for which he can make like for like mini mountains.

Sixth stage, he now has a mini mountain, he takes a spray painter and colours the mountain. Using a spray painter gives a better finish, more even, quality finish.

Final stage, he prepares a piece of wood for which he will place the mountain on to. The mini mountain is finished.
